Class A1 welcomed the summer, the sunshine and the long-awaited holidays, and to mark the occasion the pupils posed for a class photo. Astronomical summer begins on the day of the summer solstice, around 21 June, when the day in the northern hemisphere is the longest of the year.
With the arrival of the new season, the pupils learnt about different kinds of watches and the history of the watch. The first portable timepieces, worn around the neck or carried in a pocket, appeared in Europe at the beginning of the 16th century, while wristwatches only became widespread in the 20th century.
The theme of the lessons was accompanied by a new letter and sound – Z, as in zegarek (watch), zebra, zero or zamek (castle). The children looked for it in exercises on the interactive whiteboard and practised writing it on worksheets. It is worth remembering that the Polish alphabet also has the letters ź and ż alongside z, which stand for different sounds. The children also made colourful posters saying ‘Witaj lato’ (‘Hello summer’).
The pupils also watched a lovely performance by the ‘Karolinka’ group. Special applause goes to the four pupils from class A1 who perform in the group.
In the last lesson, the pupils decorated wooden frames for the class photo – a keepsake of the year spent together. The finished frames with the photo, as well as more pictures from the lessons, can be seen in the gallery.
