At a Saturday lesson, a whole hive of busy little bees helped pupils learn the spelling rules for ‘ó’, which children often find quite tricky. The teachers, in striped bee costumes and a beekeeper’s hat, combined learning with fun and prizes, and there was also a tasting at the table laden with honey and honeycomb. The bee theme suits the topic well: we write ‘ó’, among other cases, when it alternates with ‘o’ in other forms of the word or in related words, as in the pairs ‘pszczółka – pszczoła’ (little bee – bee) and ‘miód – miody’ (honey – honeys). The photos also show a game in which children with straws attached to their headbands collected pompoms from a flower-shaped tray. It was spelling practice with a sweet and cheerful twist.
