Class B1 began another year of learning at the Polish school with summer holiday memories. Pupils talked about how they had spent their holidays: where they had been, what good food they had eaten and what interesting things they had seen.
All the stories were noted down in exercise books, so the conversation immediately became a Polish writing exercise as well. Pupils also worked with ‘Moje wakacje na fotkach’ (My holidays in photos) cards, on which they captured summer moments in drawings and captions, and with tasks on the interactive whiteboard. Holiday memories are a good topic for the start of the year: after a long break, they make it easy to get back into speaking Polish and to refresh vocabulary.
In the last lesson, the memories went into a magic jar. Pupils covered them with sand from the Polish seaside, seashells and pieces of amber – the photos show them at their tables filling glass jars with small treasures. Amber, known as Baltic gold, is the fossilised resin of coniferous trees from millions of years ago, which the sea washes up on the beaches of the Polish coast – one of the most characteristic souvenirs from the Baltic.
The jar serves as a small time capsule. Perhaps in a few decades its creators will read their holiday secrets with a tear in their eye and remember their first lessons in class B1. More photos from the lessons can be seen in the gallery.
