Saturday's lessons in class B1 were all about Frederic Chopin. The composer is the patron of our school, so – as every year – we devoted this special day to him, full of music, joy and creative energy.

To the sound of Chopin's works, the pupils danced, drew and coloured portraits of the composer, and decorated their own small wooden musical instruments – little drums with beads on strings, which they covered in colourful patterns. Everyone could feel the remarkable atmosphere inspired by our patron's work and discover their own artistic sensitivity.

Frederic Chopin was born in 1810 in Żelazowa Wola. He himself gave 1 March as his date of birth, although his baptismal certificate records 22 February. From 1831 he lived in Paris and never returned to Poland, and his heart, in accordance with the composer's wishes, rests in the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw.

The day became even more special thanks to a performance by the ‘Karolinka’ Dance Group. Combining Chopin's music with Polish folk dance makes perfect sense: echoes of folk melodies and rhythms can be clearly heard in the composer's mazurkas, and his polonaises grow out of the tradition of the polonaise, one of Poland's national dances.

It was a wonderful celebration that will stay in our memories for a long time. More photos can be seen in the gallery.
