Book Day at school brought many inspiring events and pleasant surprises. Pupils met Ms Patrycja Kuczewska, author of the book ‘Kostek i Gucio – tajemnica kamiennego jaja’ (Kostek and Gucio – The Mystery of the Stone Egg).
The conversation with the author was an opportunity to ask many questions about how a book is created – from the first idea, through the successive stages of work, to the finished edition. Young readers rarely have the chance to hear first-hand about what goes on behind the scenes of a writer's work.
Books have their own special days in the calendar: 23 April is World Book and Copyright Day, established by UNESCO, while in the UK World Book Day is celebrated at the beginning of March – pupils often come to school dressed as their favourite literary characters.
The session flew by in a creative and cheerful atmosphere. During the workshops, pupils made their own unique bookmarks – many of them took the form of colourful little monsters with big eyes and teeth. A bookmark is a small but practical object: it lets you return to your reading exactly where you left off, and a handmade one encourages you to reach for more books.
An additional highlight was a talk by our class medallist, who spoke about her journey to winning medals at the world championships. Congratulations to her once again! More photos from the day can be seen in the gallery.
