Information for Parents 15/10/2016
I would like to thank warmly all the parents who came to the General Meeting of the School Council. It is a great pity that there were so few of us, as this is the most important meeting for Parents in the whole school year…
I thank the outgoing Parents' Committee for the enormous amount of work they have done. We wish Ms Agnieszka Ożóg the very best days in her new home 🙂 This coming Saturday, i.e. 15 October 2016, we meet at school for the last time before half-term 🙂 A lot will be happening on that day 🙂 Above all, at 11:40 the children from the A classes will take part in the Pupil Induction Ceremony (Pasowanie na Ucznia). Parents with children in the A classes are warmly invited to this ceremony. We will meet in the gym. Information on what the children should wear and all further details will be passed on to you by the class teachers.
On Saturday we will also welcome one of the founders of the school, Ms Angelika Garczyńska. This year our school is celebrating its 5th anniversary!! 🙂 We are very proud! We often highlight the tangible results of our work: GCSEs passed by pupils at A*, the ‘outstanding school’ rating awarded by Polska Macierz Szkolna (Polish Educational Society)… Recently I received a message from Ms Ania Biskup, who has returned to Poland permanently with her family. With her permission, I would like to share the successes of Kinga, who completed class D with us and went straight back into school in Poland. Ms Ania wrote: ‘I can now see how much the Polish School helped Kinga; her knowledge of the language is no different from that of her peers (4+ in dictation). I should add that her reading is at 5+, and so far her grammar exercises are also 5+. I believe Kinga was very well prepared at our Polish School, and the results can be seen right from the start’ 🙂 Such great joy! Congratulations to Kinga, her parents, the teachers at our school and everyone who makes our Polish Saturday School what it is!
Back to the news 🙂 Pupils from the two oldest classes – F and G – will travel on Saturday to see the play ‘Zemsta’ (Revenge) by Aleksander Fredro, staged by Scena Polska at the Polski Ośrodek Społeczno-Kulturalny (Polish Social and Cultural Centre) in London. The children will depart from East Croydon station on 15 October 2016 at 9:30. They will return at 14:30, also to East Croydon railway station. We ask parents to arrive punctually both in the morning and at midday. You will receive all further information directly from the class teachers.
I would also like to tell you about an upcoming event in London. From 14 to 16 October the annual ‘Language Show’ will take place. It is an event for language enthusiasts and professionals working with foreign languages from all over the world. Entry is free, as is taking part in short taster lessons in various foreign languages. You only need to register to receive a ticket. http://www.languageshowlive.co.uk/…/Action…/CalendarID=1/t=m You are warmly invited!
Ms Iwona Chrzan's passion for teaching languages has also given rise to an idea for a translation project for pupils of our school, from class D upwards. The project involves translating a song, or just one verse and the chorus. Remember that the text must be ‘singable’. The deadline for submitting translations is 17 December 2016. Work should be handed in to Ms Iwona Chrzan (class E). The best project will receive a prize 🙂 This term the task is to translate Natasha Marsh's song ‘Believe’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVmdrx0KPwk We look forward to your work!
This Saturday, parents of pupils in class D1 are on duty; on 5 November, parents of pupils in class C.
Warm regards, Irena Kukuła Headteacher
