Dear Parents,
I would like to thank six parents most warmly for their additional, generous support on duty last Saturday. Thank you all so very much!!!!!
For the next two Saturdays we have the half-term break; we meet again on 8 June at 9:00.
Starting from 8 June, chess lessons will begin at our school. Pupils of our school are invited to the sessions first. Children from outside the school will also be accepted, subject to available places. The sessions will take place after lessons at 12:40. The cost is £8. Below you will find information about the sessions and the coach, Mr Łukasz Piecha. If you are interested, please contact the Headteacher: psscroydon.kukula@gmail.com, or come to school on 8 June and sign up directly with the coach.
‘I am a chess player and a FIDE chess trainer (https://www.fide.com/World Chess Federation). I work for Chess in Schools and Community (CSC)https://www.chessinschools.co.uk/ in several London schools, and also in
a private school in Winchester (Princes Mead). I also run a chess club for children in Winchester.
I have worked at chess tournaments such as the London Chess Classic, which is one of the most important tournaments in the world. My greatest chess achievements are: – 2017: 2nd place in Hampshire in the Major category, and 2nd place in the Open category in Winchester from 2017 until now,
– 2018: 3rd place in the weekend tournament at the London Chess Classic in the Major category. – 2010: 2nd place in Alicante, Spain. In addition, 1st place 3 times at Chess Castle, 2nd in Winchester, 1st in Fareham.
I am an active player: I play in tournaments and work with coaches to improve my game. Chess is my passion and has become my profession, which I am very proud of.
I have educational materials for teaching the game. Programme for the first session:
-
A short story about chess. (5 minutes)
-
The chessboard: what diagonals are, and what files, diagonals and coordinates are. (5 minutes).
-
Which pieces are used and how they move on the board (5 minutes) 4. Maths and chess. How many points each piece is worth (5 minutes) 6. What checkmate is (5 minutes)
Depending on the pupils' level, I shorten the lesson by a few minutes and we start playing.
