On Saturday 30 November 2024 the A-level students sat a mock Polish exam – Paper 1. Among other things, the paper tested reading comprehension, translation skills and knowledge of the research projects the students had chosen themselves.
The mock exam is an important stage in preparing for the A-level qualification, which usually concludes a two-year course. Working on a paper under conditions close to those of the real exam allows students to become familiar with the format of the tasks, learn to manage their time and identify which skills still need work. For young people growing up in Great Britain, it is also an opportunity to engage with Polish at a demanding, academic level – and for teachers, it provides valuable guidance when planning further work with the group.
Is it possible to look forward to St Nicholas and tackle an exam paper at the same time? The A-level class proved that it is. St Nicholas did indeed bring presents – though, of course, no hints. As a memento, the class had their photograph taken with him against a festive backdrop.
In Poland, presents from St Nicholas are especially awaited on 6 December. According to tradition, good children find gifts on that day, while naughty ones find a birch rod. However, for the determination and focus with which they worked on the paper, the A-level students deserved much more than a birch rod. Congratulations!
