On Saturday, pupils met their loved ones in the classroom for Family Day. It was a special day, full of joy, smiles and emotion. For the children, celebrating with their families was a pleasure, and for everyone it was an opportunity to build bonds and a sense of togetherness in our Polish community school.
Parents and children sat together at tables to make artwork, and refreshments of fruit, cupcakes and snacks awaited on a long table. The smiles on the pupils' faces showed best how important and necessary such moments spent together are.
The rest of the lesson was devoted to conversations about family – what it is, what values it brings to life and why it plays such an important role in everyone's daily life. The children talked enthusiastically about their families, shared their reflections and spoke proudly about their loved ones. On ‘A heart of gratitude for my family’ cards, they wrote what they are grateful for – for example, ‘for our home’ or ‘for help’ – and on ‘My family’ mind maps they brought together words such as love, support, safety and traditions. The lesson showed how much warmth, love and sense of security a family home provides.
Pupils are becoming increasingly confident speaking Polish, expanding their vocabulary and learning to express their emotions and thoughts. Lessons like these help them not only to improve their mother tongue, but also to cherish Polish traditions, family values and a sense of belonging to Polish culture.
Other dates in the calendar are also dedicated to the family: 15 May is the International Day of Families, established by the UN, and 26 May is Mother's Day in Poland. More photos can be seen in the gallery.
