Classes · 2024
At Saturday lessons in October 2024, pupils learnt about the letter Z – as in ‘zegar’ (clock) – and the concept of time. Learning was based on hands-on experience: the children took a close look at table clocks, an alarm clock, a wristwatch, a pocket watch, an hourglass, a compass and a drawing of a sundial, and also presented cuckoo clocks they had made themselves. Timepieces old and new – from the shadow moving across the face of a sundial to the sand trickling through an hourglass – help us understand how the passage of time is measured. The letter z is also particularly important in Polish because it forms part of the digraphs ‘cz’, ‘sz’, ‘rz’ and ‘dz’. Lessons like these stay in the memory for a very long time.
